Great BLister Busting Tips from the Rockettes!
Whether you focus most on ballet, tap, jazz or modern, you can’t go full out if you’re in pain. And nothing puts a damper on your dance performance like getting a blister right before the curtain goes up. We’ve rounded up our favorite tapes, bandages and more to keep your feet in tip top-shape. You’ll be able to find most of these products at your local drug store, but we’ve provided links to where you can buy online, just in case. 1. Foot Glide Balm Blister Resister Tap and jazz shoes can chafe the back of your heel. Think of this stick as ChapStick for your feet. The shoe will glide over your skin instead of digging in. Bonus: It’s also useful on date night when you’re rockin’ your cutest pumps! 2. Dr. Scholl’s Soothing Foot Powder Blisters can develop more easily on damp (er…sweaty) skin. Before you lace up, sprinkle some talcum powder on your toes. This one from Dr. Scholl’s has a cooling effect and also helps your feet smell a little fresher. 3. Band-Aid Advanced Healing Blister Cushions These are for large, really painful blisters. The cushioning gel pad keeps the blister protected and relieves pain. They’re waterproof and have advanced adhesive so it’ll stay put as you grand jete. 4. Nexcare Durable Cloth Tape When wrapping your toes, traditional first aid tape can seem binding and even cause cuts. That’s why we love using this cloth version that’s more flexible. 5. New Skin Liquid Bandage Ballet dancers, don’t wince! We know it stings on contact, but sometimes New Skin is the only way to have your toes feeling like normal while in your pointe shoes. A traditional bandage can sometimes chafe leading to even more blisters. And here’s another tip: If you feel a blister coming on, apply a few layers of Liquid Bandage to the area. It could prevent it from getting any worse!
6. Nexcare Absolute Waterproof Foam Tape Foam tape is the best if you need just a little cushioning for the blister. It’s stretchy and sweat-proof, so it won’t roll or unravel. 7. Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt Soaking your feet in epsom salt each night is a great way to reduce healing time. To make it a mini spa experience, try Dr. Teal’s. They come in awesome scents like lavender and spearmint-eucalyptus.
